Nostalgic SA Hedgehog Slice

Hedgehog Slice a classic South African no-bake favourite packed with chocolate, biscuits, and pure nostalgia. Crunchy, rich, and impossible to stop at one bite.

Ingredients

  • 250 g butter or margarine
  • 1 tin condensed milk
  • 2–3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 packet Marie biscuits, roughly broken
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut (optional but very “SA bake sale” style)
  • Optional topping
  • 1 slab milk chocolate, melted or chocolate icing

Method

  1. Grease or line a square tin.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter.
  3. Stir in condensed milk, cocoa and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Remove from heat and mix in the broken Marie biscuits and coconut.
  5. Press firmly into the tin.
  6. Spread over melted chocolate or icing if using.
  7. Refrigerate for a few hours until firm.
  8. Cut into squares.
